April 3, 2020 – This is a tough time for Zajac Ranch, as well as for many other charities and businesses around the world. As a non-profit organization that does not receive government funding, our main stream of revenue comes from the school and community groups that we welcome in the spring and fall and that make it possible for us to offer the camp experience to over 500 children each summer, at a reduced cost for the families. We have now had to cancel all bookings for the upcoming months and are anticipating that we will have to continue doing so, in order to maintain the social distancing needed. This represents a loss of hundreds of thousands of dollars that we will not be able to make up for as we incur in substantial weekly costs, given the need to look after our petting zoo animals, maintain a large facility and pay fixed costs such as utilities and insurance. Most of our year-round staff have either been laid off or gone into work sharing in an attempt to reduce our costs during these difficult times.
Zajac Ranch covers half the cost of each child attending camp (with the exception of children who come to us fully sponsored by external organizations). We want to continue doing so in order to alleviate the financial burden for the families. If you are in a position to help us accomplish this, now more than ever your donation would be greatly appreciated. Please click here if you are interested in donating.
In the summer months, Zajac Ranch for Children provides camps for children and young adults with chronic, life-threatening and/or debilitating conditions. These experiences give participants the opportunity to explore the outdoors while developing greater social and environmental awareness, increased self-confidence and positive growth in attitudes towards physical activity.
