Family Camp Information
What are Family Camps?
Last year we introduced Family Camps during the COVID-19 pandemic with great success! We had zero reported cases of COVID-19 last year and we have achieved that with our safety protocol in place. The Family Camps are designed to give our campers and their families the opportunity to safely enjoy everything camp has to offer. Our separate activity areas and sleeping lodges make it possible for us to run family camps for multiple families at a time without two families ever having to be in close proximity.
Please Note: We continue to closely follow the safety guidelines provided by the Provincial Government and Health Authorities. As the pandemic improves and restrictions start to lift, we may be able to invite more families to the ranch! There will be a possibility that some families will be grouped together for outdoor activities and washrooms may be open for public use when it becomes safe to do so. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us at 604-739-0444.

Who Can Come To Family Camp?
Zajac Ranch for Children offers camp experiences to children and young adults with a variety of medical needs and disabilities. Our family camps create an opportunity for campers in our community to safely experience camp while being supported by their family.
In light of COVID-19, our nursing director will evaluate each application individually to make sure each family can safely attend.
Why should my child go to camp at Zajac Ranch?
Located in Mission, BC, on 44 acres of pristine forested land on Stave Lake, Zajac Ranch for Children welcomes children and young adults with a variety of medical diagnoses from across BC and Canada. In a study from the University of Waterloo, researchers confirmed the benefits of participating in camp programs, identifying positive outcomes that showed improvements in five key areas of personal growth:
- Social integration and citizenship
- Attitudes towards physical activity
- Self-confidence and personal development
- Environmental awareness
- Emotional intelligence
All children deserve the opportunity to participate in a camp experience that is both supportive and accepting. For many children with special medical needs, the care they require is often too great to allow them to attend a traditional camp. Facilities at Zajac Ranch are fully accessible by children of all abilities. Full accessibility does not just mean a section for wheelchairs in the amphitheatre – it means the entire seating area is accessible so campers can sit among their friends anywhere in the audience. It means specially designed Action Track chairs give campers with mobility challenges the opportunity to go hiking through the woodland terrain with their peers. It means campers can receive the daily medical care they require – whether that means receiving medications or spending time in a special Snoezelen sensory room – at our 24 hour on site medical centre, The OK Corral, which is staffed by highly qualified volunteer doctors and nurses.
