Every kid should get to go to summer camp. Let’s work on that together.

- Mel Zajac, Founder

A fully inclusive summer camp where everything is accessible for children with medical conditions and disabilities.

Zajac 20 Years Crest

Imagine a world where all children have equal access to the benefits of summer camp

For 19 years, Zajac Ranch for Children has remained wholeheartedly committed to our promise of making a positive impact on children. We continue to develop and operate the most innovative medical camp where everything is accessible and inclusive and where everyBODY can participate. Since 2004, we have provided a place of INSPIRATION, HOPE, and AccessABILITY where kids can concentrate on the main purpose of camp: having fun and making friends.

Summer Camps

All children deserve the opportunity to participate in a camp experience that is both supportive and accepting. For many children with special medical needs, the care they require is often too great to allow them to attend a traditional camp. Facilities at Zajac Ranch are fully accessible by children of all abilities.

The benefits of a summer camp experience should not be denied to any child because of their medical requirements or their family’s financial status.

Jordan

Meet Jordan

.Jordan lives with a neurological disorder called lissencephaly, as well as cerebral palsy and epilepsy. Because of these diagnoses, he requires 1:1 support and is often denied the participation in certain activities children his age normally have access to – except when he is at Zajac Ranch.

Georgia, Jordan’s caregiver who attended Zajac Ranch with him, was in awe of the welcoming, inclusive and empowering community they both encountered at camp. The impact Zajac Ranch made on Jordan left Georgia advocating for him to attend a second week, which he did.

Every activity was adapted so he could participate and there seemed to be no limits to what he could do – a welcome change to the barriers and limitations he encounters at home day in and day out.

Meet Georgina

Georgina was born very prematurely with a heart problem and spent most of her early years receiving outstanding medical care at BC Children’s Hospital. While undergoing open heart surgery to repair the VSD in her heart, she was diagnosed with a partially missing chromosome, making her 1 out of 3 children that have this condition in North America.

Georgina and her family discovered the Zajac Ranch for Children’s summer medical camp program through a family friend whose daughter attended. She has been going to both weeks of the Mixed Diagnosis Camps ever since. Her favorite activity at Zajac Ranch is, not surprisingly, Horseback riding! However, she is also very fond of her, “camp connections,” with her peers and Zajac Ranch staff.
