Our medical volunteers play a vital role in creating a safe, fun, and memorable experience for our campers. We are committed to fully supporting our volunteers, ensuring they can create a safe and supportive environment at Zajac Ranch.
Responsibilities
- Support the overall health and well-being of campers, staff, and volunteers at Zajac Ranch for Children.
- Distribute medical supplies and equipment to program areas and cabins at the start of camp.
- Greet campers and their families during check-in, reviewing medication details such as dosage, routes, and schedules with parents.
- Review campers’ medical files to ensure all necessary medications and needs are accounted for and prepared.
- Organize and store all medications for both campers and staff.
- Administer medications in accordance with the directions provided by the camper’s MRP (Most Responsible Physician).
- Ensure that all medications and procedures are administered correctly and maintain appropriate records.
- Document incidents according to camp guidelines, including logbooks, health department reports, and incident reports.
- Respond promptly to first aid needs of campers and staff, treating minor illnesses, accidents, or mishaps.
- Provide short break relief for 1:1 personal support workers if needed.
Requirements
- Valid CPR-C certification (higher certifications are also accepted).
- Current practicing registration with a relevant regulatory college or association in British Columbia.
- A qualified professional in the field of medicine (MD) or nursing (RN, LPN, RPN, or NP). Students and paramedics are encouraged to apply and will be considered based on availability to pair with a nurse or doctor.
Perks
- Accommodation is provided in a newly built medical residence, located near the medical center, featuring four bedrooms and two bathrooms.
- Meals are provided by the camp chef.
- Medical volunteers are welcome to bring up to two children (ages 7 or older) to camp, with camp fees waived for them.
- Volunteers attending for more than one consecutive week can stay in the medical residence over the weekend
