Zajac Ranch Job Description – Wranglers (Camp Counsellors)
Organizational Overview:
Located on the shores of Stave Lake in Mission, BC, just one hour east of Vancouver, Zajac Ranch for Children is situated on over 40 acres of pristine forested land. During the summer months, Zajac Ranch provides camps for children and young adults with chronic, life threatening and/or debilitating conditions. In the off-season, Zajac Ranch welcomes school groups and private rentals. Revenue raised from site rentals goes to supporting Zajac Ranch summer medical camps.

Length of Contract: 2.5 months (June 15, 2026 – September 4, 2026) *some camp session exceptions apply due to private camps
Compensation: $150.00 per day; MANDT Relational and Technical Training & Certification; plus, meals and accommodation provided during camp sessions.

Position Summary:
The Wrangler (Camp Counsellor) is a vital member of the Zajac Ranch team, ensuring the safety, health, and well-being of all campers. Wranglers supervise and support children and young adults with medical needs, promote good hygiene and nutrition, model positive behavior, and help create a fun, inclusive, and supportive camp environment.
Wranglers are compassionate, reliable, and proactive team players who lead by example and contribute positively to camp life throughout their contract period.
Key Responsibilities:
Camper Care
- Supervise campers and ensure their health, safety, and enjoyment throughout camp sessions.
- Serve as a positive role model, encouraging participation and teamwork while maintaining awareness of medical and behavioral needs.
- Support campers with daily routines including meals, hygiene, cabin clean-up, and medication times.
- Escort campers safely to and from activities, providing motivation, guidance, and positive reinforcement.
- Collaborate with fellow counsellors to create an engaging and inclusive cabin environment.
- Promote a safe atmosphere by using Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) and problem-solving techniques to manage behavior or conflict.
- Assist Activity Specialists (“Rangers”) with program delivery, setup, and cleanup as needed.
Program & Team Support
- Help organize and lead camp programs, ensuring activities are fun, safe, and inclusive for all participants.
- Support colleagues with flexibility and teamwork, stepping in to assist with cabin coverage, events, or meals as required.
- Participate enthusiastically in camp-wide activities, campfires, and theme days to promote spirit and engagement.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and positive camp environment while adapting to changing schedules and camper needs.
Health & Safety
- Follow all Zajac Ranch medical, dietary, and safety procedures in coordination with the on-site Medical Team.
- Monitor campers’ physical and emotional well-being and respond promptly to any issues.
- Encourage good hygiene and cleanliness to maintain a healthy environment.
- Remain alert and calm in emergencies, following established safety and crisis response procedures.
- Adhere to all Ranch policies, including child protection, confidentiality, and workplace conduct.
Qualifications:
- Experience working with children or youth, preferably in a camp, recreation, or care setting.
- Strong communication, leadership, and teamwork skills.
- Minimum 18 years of age (required).
- Standard First Aid & CPR-C (required).
- Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening (required)
Work Environment:
- Live-in role during camp sessions with weekends off.
- Requires flexibility, high energy, and the ability to work in an outdoor, fast-paced environment.
- Active participation in physical and recreational activities is expected.
