    Opportunity:

    The Wrangler (Inclusion Support Specialist) is responsible for supporting participants with additional needs who are attending a program with Zajac Ranch. Under the supervision of the Unit Leaders, the Wrangler (Inclusion Support Specialist) will work 1:1 to assist participants with physical, behavioural or developmental support needs, to plan and implement activities that are safe for all participants. Additionally, the Inclusion Support Specialist will collaborate with other Zajac Ranch staff to adapt or modify program plans to meet the needs of all campers. Inclusion Support Specialist will be assigned an individual camper each week to provide support in any program offered by Zajac Ranch.

    Specific Duties include but are not limited to:

    Camper Care:

    • Provides creative adaptations, modification, or alternative options for participants when needed and as appropriate, while simultaneously adhering to Zajac Ranch’s policies and procedures
    • Fosters an inclusive environment for all program participants.
    • Communicates with parents/guardians to determine support needs and provide daily updates
    • Reports on success and challenges of the program, including recommendations for the future, to supervisors.
    • Utilizes emotional regulation, visual schedules and aids, positive behaviour support strategies and other tools when needed to support campers in the enjoyment and successful participation of day-to-day camp activities.
    • Maintains confidentiality of all participant information.
    • Administers care in emergency and first aid incidents, exercising sound judgement and leadership, deferring to supervisors where appropriate.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Opportunity:

    The Wrangler (Camp Counsellor) is part of a trained team that ensures the well-being of participants at summer camp. The responsibilities always include supervising campers, overseeing good nutrition and personal hygiene practices, modeling collaborative problem solving and demonstrating positive behavior in social situations. Wranglers are responsible and dependable adults who are anticipatory, empathetic and practical. They must be available and willing to step into situations on request and be a positive and constructive part of an integrated team for the duration of the contract period.

    Specific Duties include but are not limited to:

    Camper Care:

    • Facilitate and assist campers in having a safe, fun and enjoyable session: Camp Counsellors (“Wranglers”) are the Zajac Ranch for Children cabin counsellors and are responsible for the constant supervision and overall health and safety of a group of children with special medical needs.
    • Serve as a role model in providing support by helping campers to stay motivated and have fun throughout their stay, they are knowledgeable and aware of any medical issues in the group and provide support to those who request assistance.
    • Attending and participating in regular staff meetings.
    • Ensure that campers are fully prepared and ready for each activity (i.e. dressed appropriately and have the correct equipment for the activity), they lead campers safely to and from activities while providing constant encouragement and positive reinforcement and they provide supervision and assistance in all aspects of the camper’s daily routine, including but not limited to meals, cabin clean-up, camper hygiene, rest hour, scheduled medication times, behaviour management.
    • Work with other counsellors to create a cabin team that will best meet the needs of campers, assist in all camp programs with assigned staff (i.e. evening programs, campfires, theme days, etc.) assist campers in having a safe, fun, and enjoyable session.
    • Managing a cabin’s welfare, safety and security by promoting a safe environment and responding to crisis using trained Non-Violent Crisis Intervention techniques.
    • Using collaborative problem solving and negotiation to maximize a camper’s engagement with the program.
    • During the hour in which something is planned, counsellors should be actively attempting to get their camper to the activity.
      • Example: Bob and his camper Rick are having a lot of trouble getting to baking. Bob pushed hard for Rick to attend for 15 minutes. He decides that the pushing isn’t working and so engages him in something else for 5 minutes. When that activity reaches a positive place, Bob uses the excitement and momentum to push Rick again to attend Baking. Repeat until the hour is complete and then attend the next activity.
    • Counsellors will provide support to Rangers (Activity Specialists) whenever they can, to either run an activity, help set up and activity or help clean up an activity, coverage permitting.

    Opportunity:

    We are looking for a dedicated and skilled Unit Leader to become a member of our team. In this senior staff role, Unit Leaders will be responsible for managing daily operations, supervising staff, and ensuring a safe and enjoyable summer camp experience for all participants.

    Specific Duties include but are not limited to:

    Staff Management:

    • Provide leadership to a team of counsellors and their respective Team Leads acting as mentor, supervisor, support system.
    • Write and deliver mid-summer and final performance reviews for Camper Care Team Leads and all Wranglers.
    • Be active in the staff progressive disciplinary process, as needed, and provide recommendations to the Director’s for responding to performance issues.

    Operations:

    • Attend daily senior staff meetings to enhance communication and facilitate effective management of the summer camp operations.
    • Assist with camper arrival and departure day procedures.
    • Work with Food Services department to facilitate mealtimes and snacks.
    • Provide any maintenance requests that need to go to the Superintendent Maintenance to the Directors, as required.

    Camper Care:

    Position Summary: Ranger are our Activity Specialists during summer camp. They work either individually or as part of a team, depending on the activity, to deliver programming for their designated activity area. Rangers are also camp counsellors who are assigned to a camper cabin for the duration of the week and are expected to perform all the duties of a counsellor whenever they are not running programming.

    Specific Duties include but are not limited to:

    Camper Care:

    • Facilitate and assist campers in having a safe, fun and enjoyable session. At the Zajac Ranch for Children, cabin counsellors and are responsible for the constant supervision and overall health and safety of a group of children with special medical needs.

    • Encourage and provide positive reinforcement to each camper during activity sessions, using the therapeutic recreation model (covered during staff training).
    • Adhere to Local Operating Policies and Procedures and Standards for activities.
    • Attending and participating in regular staff meetings.
    • Assigned to a cabin group if not scheduled for leading an activity.
    • Assist in facilitating all camp programs with assigned staff (i.e. Evening programs, Campfires, Theme days, etc.)

    Ranger Positions Available:

    • Lifeguard (3 positions)– NLS qualifications to act as a Lifeguard at our lakefront dock and indoor pool. See other posting for Lifeguards
    • Canoe and Kayak (2 position)– NLS qualifications and canoeing and kayaking experience to teach campers how to canoe and kayak at our waterfront.
    • Ropes Course (3 positions)– Lead campers through our high and low ropes course and climbing wall (site specific training provided). Previous ropes course/teambuilding experience an asset.
    • Creative Arts (1 position)– Facilitate with arts and craft projects and dramatic programs.
    • Outdoor Adventure / STEM (1 position)– a nature loving person to lead campers in outdoor pursuits including: archery, orienteering, hiking, campfire building, and many more.
    • Equestrian (2 positions)– Experience working with horses to help care for the horses and other animals and ensure that campers have a safe and fun time during the program.
    • Archery (1 position)- Facilitate archery activity rotations and responsible for the maintenance and repair of archery equipment (training provided)

    Opportunity:

    This position is part of the senior camp management team. Its functions are to handle the scheduling of all personnel with the priority of maximizing coverage, and to design and deliver innovative, discovery and skill focused programs for the entire camp population (evening, daytime electives, special themes, day trips, visitations, etc.) It requires the incumbent to work with other senior staff members prior to the opening of camp to review and to establish program objectives, to establish an operating budget, to make recommendations on the acquisition of equipment and / or materials and to identify outside resources that could enrich the quality of the camp program. The Program Coordinator supervise some activity staff, act as first responders in the event of a crisis and report regularly to the Directors.

    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    Programming Staff Supervision and Management (Summer):

    • Facilitating training for Rangers in individual program areas.
    • Managing equipment and maintenance requests from individual program areas and ensuring all necessary materials are purchased in advance of the beginning of camp.
    • Being an active, visual presence at program areas throughout camp sessions.
    • Planning, leading and adapting staff training sessions.

    Safety

    • Along with directors, planning and delivering all emergency procedure training with on-site staff
    • Making sure activity areas are clean, tidy, and safe before and after each camp session.
    • In rotation with the Camp Director / Assistant Director/ Unit Leaders, providing “On Call” coverage (can be contacted by phone or radio) from bedtime to Breakfast in case of emergency.

    Off-Season Rental Groups

    • Along with Directors, managing preparations for incoming rental groups.
    • Assisting with setting up for, serving, and clean-up process for meals.
    • Facilitating Outdoor Education programs for groups as required.
    • Checking in with groups to ensure satisfaction and that all needs have been met.
    • Helping to manage clean-up process after departure of rental groups.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in camp administration, recreation, social work, education, or related field an asset.

  • Medical Volunteers

    Our medical volunteers play a vital role in creating a safe, fun, and memorable experience for our campers. We are committed to fully supporting our volunteers, ensuring they can create a safe and supportive environment at Zajac Ranch.

     

    Responsibilities

    • Support the overall health and well-being of campers, staff, and volunteers at Zajac Ranch for Children.
    • Distribute medical supplies and equipment to program areas and cabins at the start of camp.
    • Greet campers and their families during check-in, reviewing medication details such as dosage, routes, and schedules with parents.
    • Review campers’ medical files to ensure all necessary medications and needs are accounted for and prepared.
    • Organize and store all medications for both campers and staff.
    • Administer medications in accordance with the directions provided by the camper’s MRP (Most Responsible Physician).
    • Ensure that all medications and procedures are administered correctly and maintain appropriate records.
    • Document incidents according to camp guidelines, including logbooks, health department reports, and incident reports.
    • Respond promptly to first aid needs of campers and staff, treating minor illnesses, accidents, or mishaps.
    • Provide short break relief for 1:1 personal support workers if needed.

     

    Requirements

    • Valid CPR-C certification (higher certifications are also accepted).
    • Current practicing registration with a relevant regulatory college or association in British Columbia.
    • A qualified professional in the field of medicine (MD) or nursing (RN, LPN, RPN, or NP). Students and paramedics are encouraged to apply and will be considered based on availability to pair with a nurse or doctor.

    Opportunity:

    The CIT Coordinator is a key member of the senior camp management team, responsible for designing and delivering the Counselor-in-Training (CIT) program. This role focuses on developing CITs’ leadership, social, and emotional skills while providing direct supervision. The coordinator collaborates with senior staff to set program goals, create materials, and source additional resources. Flexibility is essential to meet the varying needs of CITs. Additionally, the CIT Coordinator supports general camp operations, including staff breaks and crisis response, and reports regularly to the Camp Directors.

    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    Programming Staff Supervision and Management (Summer):

    • Facilitate training and programming for Counselors-in-Training (CITs)
    • Provide direct supervision and ongoing support to all CITs
    • Plan and deliver dynamic leadership, social, and emotional skill-building programs tailored to the specific CIT group
    • Identify and assign meaningful roles for CITs within camp to support skill development and contribute to camp operations
    • Plan, lead, and adapt staff training sessions as needed
    • Conduct regular check-in meetings with CITs to assess progress and improve program delivery
    • Ensure clear and effective communication across all levels of camp staff and leadership
    • Attend daily senior staff meetings to support overall camp coordination and decision-making

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Daily care and well-being of the horses in feeding, stall cleaning, grooming, exercising and first aid/treatment of minor illness or injury
    • Daily care of petting zoo animals; i.e. goats, sheep, chickens, etc.
    • Oversee the cleaning and maintenance of the tack, stable, corral and turnout
    • Train and supervise barn staff and volunteers

    Yes! Every year we have a number of Rangers, Wranglers, Kitchen Staff and Maintenance Staff who volunteer their time for anything from a few days to a few weeks. Contact us for more details and to discuss your availability.

    Staff training starts mid-June and the summer season ends at the end of August. Your exact employment dates will be included in your offer letter.
